Overdraft Services
Understanding Overdrafts & Overdraft Fees
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but the bank pays it anyway. This can happen when you:
- Write a check
- Authorize an automatic payment from the checking account (ACH) to pay for recurring expenses such as utility bills, mortgage payments, gym memberships, etc.
- Pay for purchases with a debit card
- Make withdrawals from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
Any item(s) posted as a debit to your account can result in an overdraft and all such items are treated the same with regard to the action we may take to cover your transaction(s). In other words, overdraft actions and charges can apply to all debit transactions. Community West Bank offers several types of overdraft services, listed below, that can cover you in the event of an overdraft.
We may, at our discretion, honor transactions that overdraw your account, or we may decide to return the item(s), also called Non-sufficient Funds (NSF) items, to the payee. In either case:
We charge a $25 non-sufficient funds fee per transaction during our nightly processing beginning with the first transaction that overdraws your account balance by more than $50 (maximum of 4 fees per business day, for a total of $100 for Consumer checking accounts and a maximum of 8 fees per business day for a total of $200 for Sole Proprietorship checking accounts).
We charge $10 non-sufficient funds fee per transaction that is rejected or returned during our nightly processing beginning with the first transaction (maximum of 4 fees per business day for a total of $40 for Consumer checking accounts and a maximum of 8 fees per business day for a total of $80 for Sole Proprietorship checking accounts).
Please be aware that the item may be re-presented to us multiple times for payment resulting in recurring NSF fees. There is no limit to the number of times the item can be re-presented in an effort to be paid. It is not our intent to charge you multiple times when the item is re-presented for payment; however, we are unable to differentiate whether an item is a first-time presentment or a re-presentment. Please review your account statement and if our system charged you an NSF fee after the item was first presented, notify Customer Service at (559) 298-1775 or your local banking center and we will reverse the NSF fee.
The amount of any overdrafts plus our Non-Sufficient Funds and/or Overdraft (NSF/OD) Charge(s) that you owe us shall be due and payable upon demand. If our final decision on the item(s) caused your account to become overdrawn, you should make a deposit as soon as possible to bring your account to a positive balance.
